Kindergarten Happenings

Here are a few pictures from last Friday!  We ended the week with a trip to the pond with Mrs. Bennett's Class.  We talked about how low the water is, observed the surroundings and illustrated for our science journals.  We learned words such as precipitation & evaporation.   We also enjoyed a visit from the Bravehearts and Jake the Lion.
Arianna & Ella worked hard on this pattern block picture.
 Being Scientists and making observations.

Scientists also record what they observe.  We are illustrating and writing what we noticed.

Bravehearts visit & acknowledging summer reading success.

Here are two summer readers!  Nice job girls!
Sharing the marker!  We were getting ready for journal writing.  We talked about TTQA (turn the question around), dashed out sentences, and sounded out words.  The children helped to finish the sentences.  We also talked about important parts of a sentence. (capital, spacing & punctuation)

Exploring geo sticks.  Some of us created shapes, numbers, letters and sight words.

Josie is working on her season puppets.
HWT ~ We are practicing Frog Jump letters.
We have learned how to write E, F, B, D, P, & R so far.
We are making another class book.  We read Ten Black Dots from Donald Crews and then created a book of our own titled Thirteen Black Dots.

Rita Rainbow came to visit our classroom and teach us about the "primary colors".  The kids were excited to see the magic of making the colors of the rainbow with just three colors.  They then had a chance to experiment on their own.  Not only is this great to learn about colors it is also a wonderful fine motor activity to strengthen our finger muscles!
Practicing our sight words by building them with magnetic letters, writing them and reading them.
Look at these two cuties! I just loved the sayings on their shirts.
Words to remember: "Love will save the day" & "We all must love one another".
Write the room.  Looking at the two numbers provided and figuring out which number is missing.

STEM challenges ~ Nice job working on this Ella!
OSMO was introduced this week.  The children are very excited to use this activity.
Way to go Will.  Write the room. Counting and recording your answers.
Pattern block creations.  The students built a design or picture using pattern blocks then recorded what they made, how many blocks they used and how many of each block.
Chickens Come Home in physical education class!
Choice time - being creative and making stick puppets at the writing center!
Dominc and Cameron built a store using the large lego blocks.
Today we read a poem about apples and then did a STEM Challenge using a toilet paper roll, ten sticks and 8 apples.  The students loved working on this challenge.  We even discovered how good it feels not to give up and keep trying when something is difficult.
Will was very excited to make the first challenge.

Cameron & Hunter were super excited to complete the second challenge!

Color Zoo ~ a book written by Lois Ehlert.  We created our own Color Zoo book.  The children used shapes to create animals.  They did a wonderful job!
MYSTERY READER!!!  Yeah, we had our first mystery reader today!
Thank you Ms. Hunt for coming and reading a couple stories to us!  We loved having you and Cameron was very excited to have you!!

 Painting Pumpkins!

GoNoodle ~ I introduced the children to GoNoodle this week.  They loved the different movement activities!  We had a little fun with the Kidz Bop kids and danced!  They did a terrific job!!

All School Meeting - We discussed safety at this months meeting.  Mrs. Bennett, Miss Hutchinson and I noted that the kindergarten children were a very respectful audience during the assembly!

Wow, that was a busy week!  We had a lot of fun learning this week!
This is truly an amazing group of children!!
Have a wonderful weekend!
