Kindergarten Happenings!

SPIRIT week was a success and we had a lot of participants throughout the week.  Our week had a surprise day off and I hope the children and parents enjoyed the extra day without work.  It was quiet chilly and looked like Winter decided to make a visit!  Hopefully warm weather will come really soon so we can enjoy some outside activities during vacation.  Here are some pictures from our week.
STAR STUDENT ~ Anna was the star student the first part of the week.  She did a terrific job sharing her All About Me pages and family pictures. She answered questions from her friends and was our line leader as well.
Handwriting time ~ The students worked on writing lowercase letters, q, z & x. We also worked on strengthening our finger muscles and doing half of our fish mosaic.  We were supposed to finish it on Friday, but will have to resume finger muscle strengthening after vacation.
Students first practiced the letters on the HWT ap and then worked in their books.
We have almost finished all letters and will continue reinforcing correct formation.

This week we talked about Earth Day & the 3 R's ~ reduce, recycle & reuse
This activity also worked on strengthening finger muscles by tearing the paper into little pieces. Then they glued the pieces on the Earth. Afterwards they each wrote something they could do to make the Earth a better place.

We also watch a couple videos to learn about Earth Day and what happens to the things that we recycle.
We took a walk around the school to observe the trees and the changes that are happening during the Spring.  We noticed some trees had little buds, others had small leaves and others had flowers blooming. We drew and wrote two things that we noticed about the Spring trees.

The students worked on building sight words or simple words using playdo. This is a great way to practice reading and writing our sight words, as well as, builds our fine motor skills.

STAR STUDENT ~ Anthony was our star student the second half of the week.  He will also have another day added to his line leader duty when we return to school on Monday. Anthony loved sharing his information sheets and pictures of his family!
Student of the Month ~ March
Scarlett was the kindergarten Student of the Month in March! Way to work hard Scarlett! We are so proud of you!!
We have a lot of hard workers in kindergarten and are so proud of all of you!!  We hope you all take a little time to relax and unwind.  Have a wonderful vacation!!

Kindergarten Happenings!

Our first full week in with everyone went great!  We were all excited and a little nervous with the change but by the end of the week everyone was feeling really good and making many new friends. We spent the week review some procedures and routines. We started our week creating an list of our names in alphabetical order. We learned that if two people have the same first letter we look at the next letter to decide who would be first. We wrote a chart and hung it up as well as put our pictures in ABC order for the kids to see.  We still need a few reminders but are getting better at lining up each day. We also started eating snack outside last week which was a lot of fun and a nice change of atmosphere. The children really enjoyed doing this 4/5 days last week.  We practiced a fire drill two times and will do it again this week. We worked on some math stations, learned a new game compare which everyone loved! We also wrote in our journals, wrote our names using lower case letters and lines, and completed self portraits. We also earned our marble party which was super exciting!!  We are off to a terrific start.  Here are some pictures from the week!  Hope you enjoy them.

Here are some pictures from the game compare. It is the old fashion game "War" but compare is better name for school fun! The students really enjoyed playing together and we will introduce them to double compare after vacation.
