Kindergarten Happenings

We had another great week!  We began talking about different tools we use to help us work and play.  We had a special visit from the Berlin Fire Fighters.  We continue to talk about how we are helpful and fair to each other during our Caring School Community meetings (CSC).  The children are doing a nice job sharing their ideas and being respectful to one another.  Here are some pictures from our busy week!

Kacie is matching beginning sounds with the correct letter.  The letter is on the pumpkin stem and the picture is on the pumpkin.  She did a great job matching the two.
Dominic & Will are creating sentences using "I like the... & I can...".  They have to complete the sentence with a picture that makes sense.  Afterwards we read each sentence.
Hunter is matching pictures that rhyme.

A visit from the Berlin Fire Department and Marshall from Paw Patrol! We talked about fire safety, saw a fire fighter dress in his gear and looked at a fire truck.

Fire Fighter Bart showing us not to be scared of a fire fighter.  He got all suited up and crawled on the floor to show the children what they could see if they were ever in a fire.
Kindergarten with Marshall!  He certainly was a hit!
High Five's

Josie is matching upper and lower case letters on candy corn.
The children were super excited about the new HWT ap.  The school purchased a new classroom ap so I could set each student up with a their own account.  So far we have been practicing numbers.  Next week we will begin uppercase letters.
Future Fire Fighters?? These boys enjoyed pretending they were fire fighters and police officers.
Excited to get their own fire helmets!
Cate is using magnetic letters to fill in the missing beginning sound.
Awesome work Aviva!!
These cuties were very proud of their buildings and wanted to show them off!
Using chips to show different ways to make 10.  We have been practicing with cubes, chips, ten frames and now learning how to record our work on paper.
Sequencing numbers 0-10 then using playdough to show each amount.
Fire Girls!  Girls day at the fire station today!!
Our ticket to snack was writing one of our sight words on paper.  Way to go!
Michael is practicing sight words in his sight word poem book. We will keep these books in our browsing boxes so we can practice our sight words and sentences.

Next week we will continue talking about different tools that we use and community helpers.  We will also take a walk over to the fire station on Wednesday.  We will have a chance to take a tour and learn a little bit about the tools used during an emergency.  I sent home a little homework that I thought was really important to talk about.  When we talked about meeting spots at home and what to do if there ever was a fire at home, many of the children were unsure what to do and where to go.  Some thought it was best to stay put until a parent came to get them.  I encouraged the children to go home and ask questions.  I thought the meeting spot drawing may be a nice way to begin the conversation.  Hopefully no one will ever have to use their meeting spot but it is an important thing to have set up.  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
