A fantastic class!!

Wow!  What a great group of children!  We get many comments throughout the week about how well we listen and behave.  I am very proud of this group. They are hard workers, kind and are doing a terrific job everyday!  Here are some photos from the week!

Work boards ~ The children are matching lowercase letters to the uppercase letters on an apple tree.

This one is owls on a tree.  Matching uppercase & lowercase letters.
The children identified the letter names and some of the sounds.
Wikki sticks ~ The kids are making words & numbers with wikki sticks.  We had fun practicing our sight words and writing our names too.
Excited to share the finished product!

Math check up ~ We have finished Topic 1 and were checking on understanding the number concepts for 0-5.  Here are two children using chips to show a way to make five!
Games were opened and introduced.  The children are very excited about the different games available to play.  It is a great way to work on social skills like turn taking, sharing, problem solving and communicating with one another!
Zingo!  Lots of turn taking and sharing occurring here.
Spill the Beans ~ Who is going to tip the pot first? Love the excitement in their faces!
Expressing their creativity with play-do.
It was all business in this house area today.

Discovering with our senses!  We have been talking about using our senses to discover things.  Today we worked with a partner to discover what was in our brown paper bag.  The children were only able to use their sense of touch, smell & hearing. We gave them time to discover and then they shared with the group what was in their bag.  We used "adjectives" to describe what we heard, smelled and felt.  We also discovered that our sense of touch was most helpful with this task.
OOHH, what can it be? "It feels hard."
 Surprised faces..."It feels squishy."
Not to sure what to think.  These boys got a really tricky one!
The look of excitement when he figured it out!
Eeww..."It feels a little wet and my finger got a little red."
The kids were very excited about guessing and seeing if they were right!  We had a lot of fun with this activity.
First All School Meeting for this group.  We did a terrific job listening during our school meeting.
Walk the room math activity.  This is one of my favorites.  I hide cards around the room and the children walk around and record what they find.  This particular activity was based on counting objects and writing the correct number.  It is a great way to get the children to count, record and move all at the same time! They did a terrific job with it!

SUPER READERS!  The children decorated superhero masks that we are keeping in our browsing box.  Some of the children love wearing them to help them read!  It's like having a "superpower".  It is really cute to see them put them on and read away!

Practicing one of our Daily Five rounds "Read to Self".
 More wiki sticks!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Another great week in kindergarten!

We had another terrific week!  The kids are doing a great job learning the routines of the day. They are working hard and learning about the different materials in the room.  We read some stories, danced the "Numbers Rumba", learned about whole body listening and practiced numbers 0-5.  Here are some pictures from our week!

We worked on cutting and putting the letters in our name in order.  The students cut their name puzzles and then had to put their names back together and identify each letter.  Some of our friends did this very quickly and others need a little more practice.  We also challenged some students to do their last name.
Stregnthening our finger uscles again with letter beads in rice.  We used tongs to take out the letters then sorted them by color and answered some math questions.

More cutting practice.  The students created and Alphabet Book for their browsing boxes.  First they cut out the pictures; one for each letter of the alphabet. Then they glued the picture with the correct letter.
More letter practice.  The students colored a "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" tree and then placed alphabet stickers on the tree.  We listened to the story and song for this activity.  We focused on controling our finger muscles to stay in the lines and peel the stickers.  Another great way to strengthen finger muscles.  We also had students identify letter names and many were able to identify sounds we have learned through Lively Letters!
Monster Math ~ students were given some monsters with numbers on their bellies.  The students sequenced the numbers.  We worked on numbers 0-5, 0-10 and some even did 0-20!!

Popcorn Numbers ~ The students counted dots on a popcorn box and then placed the piece of popcorn with the corresponding number.

A little bit of a challenge but the students were very motivated and excited to complete the picture as they sequenced numbers 0-20.  Some students need a little bit of help but we were very impressed with their work!
Getting ready to make shapes and numbers 0-5 with play-do!  This was a favorite activity for many.

Social Skills with Mrs. Checola.  We have talked about Whole Body Listening so Mrs. Checola came in to reinforce this concept with a wonderful book she has.  We talked about "thought bubbles" and how people know if you are paying attention and caring about what they say.

Have a wonderful weekend!
