Kindergarten Happenings!

Two weeks of learning, activities and fun!  We have been very busy working on math, reading and writing activities.  The children are doing an amazing job!  Their writing is coming along and many of the children are feeling more and more confident in writing on their own.  I was super impressed with the winter writing prompt we did two weeks ago!  It was truly awesome to see their writing!
Here are some pictures from the last two weeks! Enjoy!!
Engaged in a math game. The students flip over a card and solve an addition problem.  When they solve the problem they move that many spaces.
Matching addition problems with the correct sum.
The problems are on a pail and shovel. The sum is on a sandcastle.
Writing and solving addition equations using the watermelon seeds.
Enjoying a game of double compare.  Adding two cards together and whoever has the larger sum wins the cards.
Counting, recording and graphing the correct amount.
Afterwards the student tells us which one has the least & which one has the most.
Write the room - A great way to get some movement in and work at the same time.  The students walked around and found cards.  We were working on counting and recording numbers 1-20.

Mixed up sentences.  The students read the words and organized them to create a sentence.  They used clues of capital letters at the beginning and punctuation.  Then they checked to make sure the sentence made sense.  Great job everyone!
Writing Prompt
Look at these amazing pictures of my hard working students!  I was blown away by the wonderful job they did completing their first writing prompt.  We talked about all the things they have learned about letters, sounds, sentences, and sight words. The students were provided with a question and they were asked to draw a picture and write a sentence to answer the question.  I was super impressed with the way the students used TTQA (turn the question around) and sounded out words for their sentence.  I am so proud of them!!!

Wow look at these sight words and sentences!!
Playing another math game to build a snowman.

A bit of a challenge but William really worked to get it done.  He was matching pictures with beginning blends like br, pl, tr, sl, etc.  Way to work William!!
Another challenge working with digraphs ~ sh, th, wh, ch.  Kaylie had to say the word and find the digraph that was in the word.  It was tricky because some of the digraphs were in the beginning and some were at the end.  Awesome job Kaylie!
Enzo is reading CVC words and matching them to pictures.  He did a great job and read all of them correctly!  Wow!
Another student to be proud of! Tucker did a terrific job finding the digraphs in each word by clipping the correct one!  Thumbs up Tucker!

A little math & sentence unscramble.

Way to go Amelia & Noah!  You did it!!

Kasey is carefully working on counting & recording! I love the neat work.
Choice time creations
Drawing pictures of their favorite winter activity.
They are now being displayed in the hallway!  They came out great!!
Starting subtraction
We worked on subtraction this week and started by signing and using manipulatives to write an equations.  We sang 5 green & speckled frogs.  The children loved this activity and taking turns sharing the materials.
Harper is working on rhyming the penguin pictures.  Way to work carefully Harper!
Calvin looks like he is prepared to work carefully with all the materials he needs for this activity.
More subtraction
Our Star Student ~ Makenna!!
She did a great job sharing her family page, all about me pages and her special share item.
We hope you enjoyed your special week!
Another fancy creation
A mystery reader!!  The children were so very excited to have Mrs. Murphy come in to read two special stories to us!  We loved both stories and Tucker was thrilled to have you by his side!  Thank you for taking the time out of your day to come in and read to us!

Mrs. Bennett and I are amazed and thrilled with the outcome of our gingerbread activity and we have you to thank for its success!!  Here is a list of the places we have received some letters/postcards from.  We still have about 8 more to read which we will spread out between now and the 14th. Please thank your relatives and friends who have helped us with this project!  It has been wonderful and so fun to read each message!!  The children really enjoy it!!
Groundhog's day is on Sunday!  So, today we spent the day talking about and learning about groundhogs day. We completed many fun activities today and worked on a lot of fine motor skills with painting, coloring, cutting, gluing and more!

We also talked about shadows and brought our groundhog puppets out to see their shadows.

My little groundhogs!  So cute!!

I hope you enjoyed the pictures!  We are doing a terrific job in class, working hard, and earning lots of marbles.  I am so proud of them all!!  We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
