Kindergarten Happenings!

Another busy week to add to the books!  I can not believe a new year will begin a little over a week from now.  This week we were busy finishing up some activities, talking about the holidays and spending time with one another.  During one activity we thought a little bit about how the reindeer fly?  Each student responded to this question.  Here are their thoughts.

Michael - "magic in their bells"
Norah - "Magic"
Cameron - "the magic Christmas Star"
Josie - "magic bells"
Kacie - "magic from the reindeer"
Dominic - "Santa has magic that he sprinkles on the reindeer."
Cate - "They gallop and magic makes them fly."
Hunter - "from all the kids that believe in Santa"
Arianna - "Santa has a big box and he sprinkles magic on the reindeer."
Ella - "Santa Claus has dust he throws on the reindeer, they run and fly."
Aviva - "reindeer jump really high and the light makes them fly"
Catie - "Santa calls their names and they fly. "Go...."
Will - "they run and run until they fly"

Here are some of the activities we worked on this week.
Practicing addition with Christmas trees and ornaments.
Real or Nonsense??  The Norah is reading each word by blending the sounds and deciding if it is a real or nonsense word.
 Write the room addition practice.
Happy Birthday Michael!!  Michael celebrated his 6th birthday this week.
We hope he had a wonderful day!!
Lunch with the teacher!  Kacie earned a special coupon and invited two friends to join her.  We loved  spending lunch with them and engaging in conversation.
Wrapping some special items!  Hope you all enjoy them!
Making wreaths - a great fine motor activity!
Gingerbread Houses with our 3rd grade buddies!

We had a fabulous week!  We hope you had a wonderful holiday and break!
See you in 2018!!

Kindergarten Happenings

What a week!  Here are some of the wonderful things we did this week.  We were quite busy working on skills and concepts like sounds, rhyming, blending sounds, segmenting sounds, reading and writing.  We also worked on math concepts based on counting, recording and addition activities.  Here are a few pictures from the week.

STAR STUDENT!!! Norah was our star student this week.  It took all week but she was able to share her information card, family pictures, a favorite book and her fuzzy fox!  Norah did a great job!  Next week will be very busy so we will not have a new Star Student.  Norah's things will remain on display!  Great job Norah!!

Math challenge completed.  Sequencing numbers by 10's to 100 & matching number words to quantities.  Way to go Cate!
 Beginning sounds and letter match.
After wards we worked on using the correct formation of capital letters.
Write the room activity.  The children walked the room and counted cards with quantities up to 20 on them.  The recording sheets varied depending on the child.  They all did a nice job.
Four in a row~ We played an addition game using dice and chips.  The students rolled the dice add the numbers and find a number to cover on the sheet.  To make it more interesting the children were challenged to connect four in a row. They loved this game and we will most likely play it again sometime.

Physical Education challenges & team work.  Ms. Draper reported they did an awesome job solving problems and working together.
Special gathering with Mrs. Bennett's Class.  We had a wonderful afternoon on Wednesday making some special treats for our families.  We will also share one with the Berlin Food Pantry as a way to give back to others!
Making special Reindeer Bags to carry our treats in.

Ending our day with a nice warm treat and a video!

Happy Birthday Ella!

We hope you had a fabulous day!  It was extra special because her mom and sisters were able to come and be the Mystery Readers!  Thank you Mrs. Felo for coming and reading some holiday stories.  We loved having you!!

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!!

Kindergarten Happenings

3rd grade buddy interviews.  We met with our third grade buddies and asked each other questions to learn a little more about each other.  The kids did a terrific job and we found out we had some things in common.  We then gathered as a larger group and shared some of the things we learned about one another.  The children are looking forward to their next meeting with their buddies....Gingerbread houses!

Look at our list of short "O" words.  The children did a terrific job write the words I gave them.

Star Student ~ Michael was the star student this week!  He did a fantastic job sharing his family pictures and tell us all about himself.  He also brought in a lego toy he enjoys playing with and Mickey Mouse!  Nice work Michael!  We hope you enjoyed your special week!

Push pin art!  The children loved this activity.  They used cork boards and push pins to go over a picture that was made using lines.  When it is complete it looks pretty cool.  It is also an excellent way to work on the pincher grasp!
Slow and steady!!  We are working on tracing and writing each upper case letter.  We officially have finished each capital letter and will practice them during the next two weeks.  When we return in January we will begin lower case letters.

Work Boards this week:
Menorah Syllables ~ the students look at the picture on each candle and figure out how many syllables are in the word.  Then they place it on the menorah with the correct number.

Fall count and record.  The students look at the page of pictures and have to count the correct amount of each object then write the number.  This one was tricky for many since the pictures are scattered throughout the page.
Building sentences ~ Students were given words and had to organize the words in sentences correctly.  Two tricks were to think about how a sentence begins (capital letter) and how it ends (punctuation).  This was tricky but most stuck with it and worked really hard!
Lunch with the Teachers
Josie earned a coupon and invited two friends to eat lunch in the classroom with Miss Hutchinson and I.  We had a nice lunch and enjoyed some great conversation!  Way to go Josie!  This is a new favorite coupon!
Mrs. Langelier reading How the Grinch Stole Christmas.  We focused on rhyming patterns and writing words that sound similar.  They of course also loved the story!

We can definitely feel the holiday excitement in the air but are still working hard. Next week we will continue to work on community workers and our community.  We will also get together with Mrs. Bennett's class to do some exciting activities.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend.  It sounds like we need to prepare ourselves for snow!  Have fun and stay warm!!
