Kindergarten Happenings

The first week of October was "Spooktacular"!  The children were really excited when they realized the new calendar included Halloween.  I tried to remind them that it was many days away but it was the topic of conversation for a little while.  This week we worked on rhyming, letter ID, sounds, counting, numbers 0-10 and sorting colors.  Here are some pictures from the week!
Kacie is working on finding rhyming pairs.
Dominic & Norah are matching upper and lower case letters.
We then work on identifying letters and the sounds we have learned.

Michael is identifying and sorting colors.
Cate is doing a walk around the room math counting activity. We like to incorporate movement into our learning so we include some walk around the room activities.  This activity is counting how many dots are on the ten frame, recording the number and showing what the ten frame would look like.

STAR STUDENT ~ Ella
Ella was our first Star Student.  She brought in a newspaper picture of her and her cast from a play she was in.  She had her poodle skirt, scarf and CD of "We go together".  I played the song and she shared her dance from the play.  It was super cute!!  The kids enjoyed watching her perform.
She also shared her All about Me pages and family photo page.
Ella did a fabulous job!  Way to go Ella!
We are excited for our next Star Student.
I will send home the share bag and red notice when it is your child's week.

Cameron is in deep thought over the rhymes. Some of the pictures are tricky.
Sequencing numbers 0-10 and making towers for each number.
We also compared towers and found out which were greater/less.

Sensory walk on a beautiful fall day!  We walked around the school and discovered fall with our senses.  We could see a lot of changes happening.  We also discovered things we could hear, touch, smell and talked about things you might taste in the fall.
The children enjoyed using our special cameras to take imaginary pictures.

Movement with Jack Hartman ~ Alphabet exercise
We say the letter, the sound and then move in a way that begins with that sound.
V /v/ - vibrate & Z /z/ - zigzag
Math art - numbers and sequence.  The children wrote numbers 0-10
then used glue and sequence to show each amount.
New Daily Five activities ~ This week we incorporated Listen to Reading & Computers.
The children are currently working on Starfall a literacy related site that works with letters, sounds and then moves into beginning reading activities.

MARBLE PARTY!!
This class is off to a terrific start.  We were very excited to bring a stuffed friend to school and wear our pajamas.  We also enjoyed some extra recess too!
 Being silly!

Have a wonderful long weekend!!
