First Week Happenings!

We started the week with a successful bus ride and classroom visit.  The children did a great job following the bus rules and practicing crossing the street!  Nice work everyone!

First group photo of the year!
Class of 2031!

First day is full of learning a lot of routines.  We went to the cafeteria with Mrs. Bennett's Class to talk about Manner's in the Lunchroom  and practice walking through the line.
 We explored pattern blocks
 puzzles
 LEGOs

We learned about STAR TIME and practiced reading and resting our bodies.  We learned that there are three ways to read a book - look at the pictures and make up the words, read the words or retell a familar story.

We read a first day poem and glued them into our poetry books.

The children enjoyed coloring the school house.
 We practiced a fire drill
We colored a picture of ourselves and will cut these out for a book at the end of the year.

Our favorite time this week has been choice time or free play. We have opened many different areas in the room.  The toy shelf, LEGOs, housekeeping, ipads, puzzles, pattern blocks, and geo blocks.  We will continue to introduce areas in the room slowly so the children can learn the rules and routines of each area.

We used our finger muscles to explore floam and playdo.

The children were beyond excited when I let them explore the ipads.  Sometimes we use these in a structured way to practice letters, numbers, shapes etc and other times I let them explore on their own.

We are off to a good start.  We will continue to work on rules and routines next week.  I hope you all have a wonderful long weekend!  See you on Tuesday!
