Kindergarten Happenings!

Welcome Back!  It sounds like everyone had a wonderful break and was able to play, relax, and be a kid!  We had a fun week back celebrating the 100th day all week!  We completed some writing activities.  We did our February writing and wrote about what we would do if we had $100's. We began learning about subtraction, counting to 100 many times and practiced counting to 100 by 10's too!  We loved the 100th day projects that came in and can't wait to see the rest of them on Monday! Here are some pictures from our fabulous week!  Here are Cohort A's messages of love!

Painting a winter tree

Practicing a new sight word in our Sight Word Poem book
Sorting real and nonsense words

Sorting syllables
Outdoor fun

Sorting digraphs - sh, th, wh, ch
The students had to identify the picture and listen for the beginning or ending sound.
Reading CVC words and deciding if it is a real or nonsense word
Writing about our favorite thing about February. Hannah had a difficult time deciding and wrote about a few ideas by dividing her page with lines.  The students did a fantastic job writing!

Stretching it out with a little yoga

Sentence writing challenge.  They are getting really good at writing sentences and remembering the important parts. Capital at the beginning, spaces and punctuation.
Making snow cakes!
100th day events
Making a beaded necklace.
Counting 10 groups of 10 to make 100 beads!

100th day projects, hats and necklaces!
100 gems to outline a unicorn
100 pom poms
100 sequence to decorate a cupcake
100 aqua beads to make the number 100
100 colorful stamps
100 dots to make sprinkles on a donut
100 legos
100 pieces of paper to make a heart

We look forward to the next group of 100 day projects.  We noticed this week that some students are beginning to tap out sounds rather than the syllables.  This is very common and practicing activities to build confidence in both concept will be beneficial. We will continue to practice breaking words into syllables (chunks) and segmenting sounds in words.  Next week we will continue the 100th day celebration with Cohort A on Monday.  We will also talk about Dr. Seuss, National Symbols and Presidents.  Don't forget to explore the bitmoji classroom.  There are extra slides on Presidents, National Symbols and Dr. Seuss.  We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
