Kindergarten Happenings!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
As you may have guessed we are off to a great start for the new year!!
The children were able to fill the almost full jar the first two days back!  We celebrated our hard work by wearing our pajamas, bringing in a stuffed friend and enjoying some extra choice time!  We already began earning marbles for our hard work, good listening and being kind to one another.  I get a lot of compliments from the specialist teachers after they have class each week!  So proud of them!!
Here are some pictures from the past week!
Work board
Jordan, Tucker and Kupa were put to the challenge to sound out CCVC words.  They all did an amazing job!  A little help here and their but they really rose to the occasion and sounded out the words very well!  Great work!!

Mila is working on organizing sentences. She did a great job using cues like a capital letter goes at the beginning and the punctuation goes at the end. Way to go Mila!
Kaylie was very excited to finish the jumbo firetruck puzzle!
Look at this cool tower!  Way to work together!
 Math activities
Gingerbread activity using dice and recognizing dot patterns quickly.
Part, part, whole....we were practicing adding two parts together to make the whole or the sum. The children would grab some bears and create a number sentence to match what they grabbed.
Math pallets working on addition sentences.  These are great because they have a self check to them once you are done.  The children love to feel independent working and checking their work.
Solving addition problems in math notebooks.  Ms. Torgersen took small groups to work on solving the equations in the notebooks.  The children are working hard and really beginning to understand the concept.
Making different numbers and finding different ways to make that number.
The student selects a number 1-10 and uses red and yellow chips to find different ways to make the number.  They then write the different number sentences to go along with each.

Finding different ways to make 5. One of our kindergarten standards is to be able to add fluently to 5. This activity is a good way to practice ways to make 5.  The students have to search for all the ways they see.  Great job Noah!  It looks like you found quite a few!
 Walk around the room addition
Harper is writing the equation to match the card above.
 It should read 2 + 4 = 6.  Way to go Harper!
 Sorting syllables
Mila is working on a rhyming activity and Makenna is sorting real and silly words.

Caught Aubree in action.  She is counting syllables for the card she is holding.  Looks like it was a three syllable word!
We have been working on mapping skills with the letters we are receiving about the gingerbread man sightings.  The children are loving all the different notes.  So far he has been spotted in Maine, New York, Italy, Zimbabwe, California, New Hampshire and we have a few more to read this week.
Great job finishing the USA map!
 Special Mystery Reader
A former kindergarten student really wanted to be a mystery reader for us so he came last week.  It was super cute!  The kids loved having him!  Great job Bennett giving us clues and reading your book to the class!

We hope you have a wonderful week!
