Kindergarten Happenings!!

Wow!  What a great week we had!  Our marble jar is already half way full!  The children are working hard on rules and routines.  We practiced lining up in ABC order by our first names and are really beginning to understand where we stand.  One more week of practicing and then our line leader will become the caboose so the net person can have a turn!  Everyone is looking forward to their turn as the line leader!  A favorite job for many!!  Here are some pictures of our week.  Enjoy!

Coloring t-shirts for a special project hanging out in the hallway.
We hope you enjoy them when you visit for Open House!

Working on strengthening our fine motor (finger) muscles.  The children ripped pieces of paper and glued them on the letters of their names to make a beautiful name mosaic!  This is a great way to strengthen our fingers so we will be able to write, draw, build and much more!

Handwriting Without Tears is the writing program we follow.  We spent some time this week listening to a few fun songs from their CD.  The alphabet boogie and Mat Man.  While we listened to Mat Man we worked as a group to build Mat Man.  Afterwards we practiced drawing a person thinking about each part.  The children are also using step drawings to help them draw a person with thickness.  We are also trying to think about using different colors too.

Here we are making a page about each of us.  We are making a book so that we can take turns taking it home to share with our families.  This will let your child show you there classmates and school staff that they see throughout the week.  I hope to get the book out late next week!

 Pattern block creations!
 Being Scientists
We went outside to examine a tree and record what we saw.  We will look at the tree during each season to talk about the changes that happen throughout the year.  Our summer tree was full of green leaves.  The children also told us a few other interesting things they noticed.

Enjoying some extra recess after our science observations!

"Our Brightest Work" bulletin board is now displaying a picture of our families.
Each child worked hard to illustrate their family!

 Exploring a few new activities
Another great fine motor activity to strengthen our fingers!
Rice, tongs & tiny objects!  The students had to fish out beads & erasers using tongs.
 Ipads
We will use ipads for some of our learning activities throughout the year.  One of the apps that the children use is the "show me" app.  Essentially it is a whiteboard on the ipad where the child can pick the color they would like to use to write/draw.  I figured if I let them explore for a little bit when it comes time to use it for writing or math they would be more focused.  They really enjoyed this!

We also had time to play with playdo.  Another material we use for learning and play!

 Choice time
The favorite part of the day for many!  Free play!!
Here are some boys playing in the housekeeping area.
Today we talked about 3 star coloring!
The children did a fabulous job coloring their Chicka Chicka Boom Boom trees!
3 star coloring means we want you to think about \
1. staying in the lines
2. use colors that make sense
3. no white spaces
We made a chart to represent what each meant and I was amazed by the careful work that happened next!  Great job everyone!!

We had a great week!  Next week we will continue to practice routines and learn some new ones.  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
