Animals in the winter

Ask your child what animals do in the winter.  Today we learned about hibernation, migration and adaptation.  We watched a short video of animals in the winter, sang a song about hibernation and sorted animals into the three groups.  We learned that some animals are "true hibernators" and will sleep through the whole winter but some are "light sleepers."  The "light sleepers" will hibernate but on warmer days/nights they may come out and search for food, then go back to sleep.   The children enjoyed making a book about the hibernating animals and did an incredible job coloring and completing this activity! Mrs. Gaucher and I were impressed with the coloring.  Everyone took their time and stayed in the lines!  It was amazing and the best coloring of the year!!
We also work with solving addition problems. The children worked in pairs while Mrs. Gaucher and I read story problems.  One partner was in charge or using chips to show the problem and the other partner was in charge of writing the correct number sentence for the problem. They did a terrific job on this!

HOMEWORK REMINDER
This was sent home last weekend but a few kiddos were worried their parents didn't get it.
This can be as simple or elaborate as your child would like. Have fun with it!!
