Another terrific week in the books!! It is hard to believe there is only one week left before winter vacation. It will also be a very busy and exciting week as well. We will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Wednesday, watching the first grade performance and celelbrating friendship & love all week with many different activities! I'm also certain their may be a marble party this week. The jar only needs 1-2 more marbles and it is full!! What a great class! Here are a few pictures from our week! Enjoy!!
Excited to share their pattern block designs!
We are creating a group of authors in this class. I made some mini books out of construction paper and the children are really excited about creating books! They are writing and illustrating all on their own! I love it! Then we are sharing them at the end of each day! I am so proud of their hard work!!
A little visual tracking practice finding a way out of the hole for the groundhog.
The week we learned how to write the lower case u, i, & e.
We will continue to encourage writing using lowercase letters, especially the ones we have learned.
Muncher ball - This is a great activity to build hand strength and finger muscles. The students have to slide the pennies from their and to the tip of their fingers and with the other hand they have to squeeze open a tennis ball to feed Muncher.
Practicing writing sentences. Wow, I see a capital at the beginning, spaces and puncturation!! YAY!!
Subtraction around the room ~ Mila is doing a terrific job writing the subtraction equations correctly for each card! Wow!
Sorting words with the same ending parts. It was tricky as some of the vowels are so close.
at, et, it, ot, ut
Building cvc & ccvc words using magnetic letters
This was a fun subtraction activity. The children really enjoyed it. They had cards to match the equation to the answer. They could work alone or in partners. We had three different mats around the room along with a few other math activity choices all cocussing on subtraction.
Emoji subtraction ~ the children had cards that had emoji face on them and some with X's. The student wrote the correct equation to go along with each card.
Here the students were given a card and a mat where they could use cubes to show their "subtraction in action". At the bottom they would write the entire equation.
Clip cards. Students had to solve a subtraction equation and clip the correct answer.
Freckle a math app. We are introducing a new app for the students to try to practice math skills and concepts. Once students are comfortable with logging in we will incorporate it into some of our math activities/choices.
Sorting subtraction equations with the same difference.
Mystery Reader ~ Mrs. Mullen
We want to thank Kasey's grandmother for coming in and being a mystery reader! The children loved having you and listening to the two stories you read. It is always fun hearing stories and making connections along the way. Thank you for taking time out of your day to spend some time with us!! Kasey was thrilled to have you!!
STAR STUDENT ~ Tucker!!
Tucker did an awesome job sharing his all about me pages, family collage and his little stuffed puppy! Some of his friends gave him name suggestions for the puppy but I think he is still thinking of the perfect name. You did a wonderful job Tucker! Hope you enjoyed your special time!
Sight word practice
