Kindergarten Happenings!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!  Hopefully the end result will be a good one!
We had an eventful week!  There are many pictures to share and children to showcase!
Hope you enjoy see the kids working & playing with each other.

Box Tops ~ Kindergarten helped to count the box tops during this fundraiser.  Mrs. Bennett's Class counted each class donation and then we counted to make groups of 50!  We practiced counting to 10 and then counted by 10's to 50!  The kids did a great job!  Way to be a community helper!

 Kindergarten Writing Prompts
The children did a wonderful job working on their writing prompts!  I was very impressed with the detailed illustrations.  I was also excited to see many children write sentences that included spaces, phonetic spelling and punctuation. Way to go kindergarten!  Keep up the terrific work!
I am so proud of you!

Star Student!  Journey did a wonderful job sharing her adorable little tiger, family page and information about herself.  She was super excited to have her tiger interact with the kids during choice time.  Way to go Journey!  You did a great job!
A little game of Husker-do with Ava who was visiting from 1st grade!  She was a lucky SOAR ticket winner and chose to be a helper in my class.  She enjoyed playing
Addison read a story to the class!  Great job reading out loud to everyone!
FUN RUN Pep Rally!!!  WE had a great time getting excited for our fun run at the pep rally!  Mrs. Williamson & Mrs. Lee got us all excited and ready to go!  Keep the pledges coming!  The children are super excited to run next Friday!
Penguins!  We learned about penguins this week and then did an experiment to discover more about their feathers.  Baby penguins can't swim because of their down feathers and adult penguins get their waterproof feathers so they can swim.  We tested this our with cotton balls for baby down feathers and crayons for the adult waterproof feathers.  We then sprayed each with water to see what happens. The water beaded up and fell off the adult penguin but it soaked the baby penguin.  The kids really enjoyed this experiment.

Groundhogs day was Saturday so we did a few activities on Friday to prepare for the day.  The children made hats, did a watercolor painting, completed a poem and we watched a video all about groundhogs.  We began a story but will finish it on Monday!

STEM Challenge - The kids worked in partners to complete a snowman challenge. They were each given 10 marshmallows and 10 toothpicks and had to build a snowman as tall as they could. This was quite tricky as they all started by using a toothpick and a marshmallow one on top of the other.  The problem with that was it couldn't stand on their own.  It took sometime but they were able to have some success.

 Success at 4.5 inches!
 5 inches!

Indoor recess obstacle course put out by Mrs. Woodward!  The kids had a lot of fun!

Congratulations to Ava!  She won the kindergarten outstanding effort award!  Way to work hard, be a good friend and use whole body listening!  I am so proud of you!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
