A successful week!

We are off to a terrific start!  The children are adjusting to the routines of the day and exploring many different materials, tools and toys this week.  We have practiced writing our names, strengthened our finger muscles, practiced cutting and much more.  We began exploring numbers 1-3 and completed the beginning of the year writing prompt.  We discussed 3 ways to read a book (read the words, use pictures to make up a story or retell a story you already know).  We have also spent some time learning about each other and making connections among our new friends.  Ask your child to show you the quiet connection symbol we use in class.  Finally Mrs. Langelier has visited to help us learn sounds using Lively Letters.  They are doing a fantastic job!  Here are some pictures from our week!
We worked on decorating our names using ripped paper.  We focused on using our pinching fingers to hold and rip tiny pieces.  This activity helped to strengthen our finger muscles.
We learned how to hold scissors and cut.  The two important things to remember are thumbs up when you cut and the holding hand does all the work by turning the paper. We also talked about going slow and taking little bits rather than big cuts.

 Puzzle Time
Floam ~ The children explored floam at our science/sensory table.
They loved building and making things with it.

Writing activity ~ What do you want to learn in kindergarten?  The children illustrated and dictated what they would like to learn this year.  I'm not sure we will touch upon all of the ideas but definitely some of them!
Geo blocks ~ The children explored and built some great structures with the geo blocks.
Cate built a house and Will built a rocket.
 Kacie built a school.

Mrs. Langelier was talking about sounds.  The children are feeling their throats for noise and quiet sounds.  I will demonstrate this at Open House.
Slime Time~  The children were super excited to play with slime this week.  My daughter made us some fluffy slime, purple & pink glitter slime and sequence slime.  The kids thought it was gooey, sticky but great at the same time!

Writing Prompt ~ We will complete a prompt at the beginning and end of the year to see how much we learn about letters, sounds, words and sentences.  The children wrote about a pet they would like to have in the classroom or home.  They were asked to describe the pet and tell us what they would do with it for a day.  Each child drew a pictures and the dictated what they wanted us to write. We had a couple children attempt to write the letters and sounds they heard.  Way to go kindergarten!  You did a great job and everyone worked really hard!

Peg boards - a good fine motor activity
Writing numbers 1-3!  We sang & danced to the "Numbers Rumba", practiced writing numbers on magnetic boards, and learned some number poems.

Geo boards ~ working to make different shapes

Using tangrams to fill in pictures.  Some of these puzzles were really tricky!
 Numbers with playdough!

Dramatic play~ house, market, lemonade stand, doctors office etc.  They enjoy playing at this center where they can use their imaginations!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
