First full week back and it was a busy one! On Monday we wrote in our journals about the extended snowy weekend. This was a good practice for the winter writing prompt that we did on Tuesday. Wow, was I impressed with the writing prompts! They did an amazing job!! Everyone wrote a sentence phonetically on their own. It was truly awesome! Here are a some pictures from our week!
Writing prompts: I was very impressed with their work. We earned a bunch of marbles too!
Practicing addition with Ipads and chips. We worked on adding the two parts and finding a missing part. Finding the missing part was a bit challenging. Way to go Hunter!
Putting sentences together. Will is organizing sentences and attending to capital letter at the beginning, punctuation and if it makes sense. Nice work Will!
Counting and graphing pictures. Practicing most, least and addition.
Sorting syllables. Tapping out parts and words can get tricky. We sometimes mix up sound segmentation with syllables especially with those one syllable words. We will continue to practice both concepts throughout the year. Way to work Michael!
Three Little Pigs STEM activity: They loved this and couldn't wait to get started. We read the story, talked about being architects and then got started on our plans to build a house a wolf couldn't blow down. Some children decided to work in pairs and some chose to work alone. It was a lot of fun!
Making plans
Working on building
Making Little Piggie masks
Testing the structures with Mr. Wolf the blow dryer.
The wolf did not blow down many of the structures but did get a few. The students then worked together to see how they could make their structure stronger.
Working in groups and talking about character, setting and problem.
They did a terrific job with this activity.
Writing words with short e.
Winter fun at recess! They just love the big hill of snow!
Fine motor practice with broken crayons and small designs.
Practicing lower case letters v & w.
We learned about Martin Luther King Jr. They each had a dream to write and illustrate.
They came out great.
Happy birthday Cameron! We hope you had a wonderful day and enjoy your birthday weekend!
Subtraction: WE have moved onto subtraction but will also continue practicing addition. The children worked using chips and a white board to write and solve subtraction problems.
Mystery Reader: Thank you Mrs. Brodeur! Dominic was very excited about his mom being the mystery reader on Friday! We enjoyed the story Corduroy and having you! Thank you so much!!
And of course a group photo!
We had a great week! Have a wonderful weekend!
