We had a great week back. A lot of activities are happening.
We began the week back by celebrating April's birthday! She had the cutest shirt on and wore a smile all day. We hope April had an awesome birthday!
We read stories to one another.
Publishing a book! The children are so excited about publishing a real book! On Monday, I sent home a form about the book we will be publishing with Mrs. Bennett's class. Please fill out the form and return it either way. We need a form filled out by everyone. Simply check no and write your name or check yes and include payment & information for the book. The form acts as a permission for your child's work to be included in the final publication.
Here are Lily & Sophia working on their pages.
Geometry ~ We began our unit on shapes. We have been talking about flat/2D shapes and solid/3D shapes. The children have enjoyed some of the activities we have been completing to review flat shapes.
Comparing numbers ~ The children walked the room, counted objects, wrote down how many of each and then let us know if numbers were greater than, less than or equal to one another. Some children were up for the challenge of using the symbols for each and others used a "g" for greater, "l" for less and the = sign. They did really well.
Shape detectives at work. The children searched the room for different objects that were different shapes. They searched for circles, triangles, squares and rectangles.
Finally a day to play outside!
Many happy faces jumping and playing on the playground.
Planting has begun! We began some planting activities today. We went for a walk to visit our school garden and write in our journals about what we saw. A lot of work needs to be done in the garden. We will venture out in the next couple weeks to clean the beds out.
We planted pumpkin seeds in pots to get them started before transplanting them into the school garden. We also made "hairy heads". The children are excited to watch the hair grow on the head they made. We used grass seed, socks and soil.
We worked on our cutting skills getting a planting book activity ready. We will work on putting it together next week.
A great big shout out goes to Mrs. Valerie Muldoon for helping to organize and get ready our planting materials. She had the water bottles cut, soil and seeds all ready for us. Thank you!!
Please return the field trip form and form for the book publication by Monday! Thank you for your help. We will be very busy in the next couple of weeks! Have a wonderful weekend!!
